History of the Botanical Garden in Sofia
The construction of the institution and the collection of collections began more than a century ago, in 1882, with the construction of the Tsar’s Botanical Garden in Sofia, located between the current "Ruski", "Levski" and "Bulgaria" boulevards. Since 1947, this garden with its preserved collections has become part of the Institute of Botany and the Botanical Garden.
In connection with the construction of the Soviet Army Monument, the garden was moved from the city center to its current location at the foot of Vitosha Mountain in 1969.
